Mindset is a Way of Life
There are thousands of books, videos, e-books and seminars about how to achieve your highest potential. I have quite a few of them myself. Most of us love this kind of motivation and feel great when we are reading, watching or attending something about this topic. However, I think most of us can agree that once we’ve put the book down or have left the seminar we go back to our same old thinking and doing. So, here I’m sharing some positive mindset tips, some simple ways to help you stay on track. Keep in mind that these are going to be very brief details, otherwise this page could be six pages long. I’m not here to preach, but I do believe there are some things that will help you achieve your dreams, whether it is to be a successful online entrepreneur, a fabulous parent, a millionaire, or a dream to take an exotic vacation.
What is REALLY Keeping You From Achieving Your Dreams?
1) You haven’t defined your dreams. How do you know if you’ve achieved a dream or a goal if you don’t even know what you want? Most people just go through the day without ever having a goal to reach. That is fine if you are happy and content with the way your life is going. However, since you are reading this I’m suspecting that you are not one of these people. So here are a few tips on defining your dreams.
a) Define what it is you want to achieve and be specific. No wishy-washy dreams here. Dream big too! Now write them down!
b) Break the goals up into smaller pieces and attach a date to it. For example, if your dream is to lose 50 pounds, break that down into a smaller task that is attainable. “I have lost 5 pounds on …” (I have written this as if it has already happened. We’ll get to this in a bit.)
c) Create a plan to achieve this goal. Again be specific. For example, I exercise for 30 minutes, six days per week. I include vegetables in all my meals. I do not eat potato chips or Doritos.
d) Now follow your plan and keep track of your achievements. Be sure to reward yourself when you’ve accomplished your goal.
2) The fear of failure. Believe it or not this is one of the biggest reasons people do not succeed. They believe that their attempt at “whatever” will not come to fruition so why even bother. The truth is “How do you know if you don’t even try?” Below are some famous quotes to keep in mind:
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.
I failed my way to success.
Our doubts are traitors, and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.
Whether you think you can or you can’t, you’re right.
Every failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success.
I believe one of the best ways to overcome fear is to surround yourself with people who will encourage you to keep trying. For example, when I started with Wealthy Affiliate I had never built a website before or tried affiliate marketing and I was feeling lost and frustrated. I wrote a post to the Wealthy Affiliate community and got the support I needed to continue.
3) It’s too hard or it isn’t working. This is similar to the fear of failure but in this case at least you are trying. Again, surround yourself with people who can help you. Look for mentors who are “aces” in what you are trying to accomplish. Look to them to guide you and give you advice when you find you have hit a roadblock. Within the Wealthy Affiliate community I have found people who are the best in specific areas of help that I may need, so I go to them directly. Then if that person can’t help me they will suggest someone else to contact.
In addition, if something “isn’t working” perhaps you are not investing enough time to it. Get up a half hour earlier or go to bed a half hour later and work on your goal. You’ll be amazed what an additional 3 ½ hours of work per week can accomplish!
4) Stop talking backwards. Most of us talk about what we want. Start talking as if you already have what you want, as I stated in the example above. Learn to say “I have lost 5 pounds.” not “I will lose 5 pounds.” When we speak in terms of lack that is what we will attract more of. I could write a book on the laws of attraction but I won’t go any further than this. If you want to read a great and humorous book on the laws of attraction I recommend Excuse Me, Your Life is Waiting: The Astonishing Power of Feelings by Lynn Grabhorn. She indeed changed my life!
My father was also a great inspiration to me. He was a successful small business owner in the automotive tool and die trade. I remember he used to read Napoleon Hill as well as other motivational authors. Taped to his mirror were: PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), Power, Win. He had me make these words out of construction paper and tape them up so he could see them every day while he was getting ready for work. He also kept a list of his goals taped to the inside of his armoire. Again, he could read these every morning at the start of his day. (I have to laugh at one of his goals though. He was in his early forties and he wrote on this list “I will not wear glasses!” Unfortunately, he eventually did end up wearing glasses.) My father is now retired and living comfortably in Florida and still encourages me every time I speak with him.
Stay On Track
It’s easy to get discouraged when you’re starting something new or trying to achieve something. Just praying and saying affirmations will not be enough. (Although I do believe in prayer and affirmations.) We must also take action. If we define or goals and strategies, look for the right people to help us and learn to talk to ourselves correctly one can achieve just about anything.
At Wealthy Affiliate we all believe in helping others achieve their success and you won’t find a better community of gurus to help you build your online business. Get started today for FREE, by clicking below
